I & M Canal Trail

I spent last Sunday biking the I & M Canal trail from Channahon to Morris for the first time. About halfway to Morris a huge storm came through, and I spent the rest of the ride to Morris pedaling in pouring rain. By the time I got to Morris, I was covered from head to toe in mud. My original plan was to find a place to eat in Morris before heading back, but I was too much of a mess for that and ended up sitting on a bench eating an apple I had stuffed in my bike bag. In all I am estimating a 28 or 29 mile trip. I would love to do the ride again on a much drier day, but I was not at all disappointed. I was basically the only person out there, and being that the scenery was completely new to me, I felt a million miles away from everything.

That sounds gorgeous. I've always wanted to go somewhere like that and spend hours and hours away from everyone and everything. You're lucky you got that opportunity this summer.

Yes, I want to do more of that sort of thing...go on a hiking or biking trip just to soak up the experience of it all. I hope to go on a week-long biking trip across Wisconsin next summer.
