Upcoming Events That Interest Me and Might Interest You As Well
Next Saturday, April 18, is the Local Authors Fair at the Kankakee Public Library from 10 to 2. I don't know who the local authors are, but I have emailed Nick Garcia to find out. I will add more info as I get it.
The Kankakee Farmers Spring Market begins Saturday, April 25 from 8 to 12. I'm really looking forward to Saturday mornings at the Farmers Market. I wonder whether the cheese guy will be there so that I can tell him that I have been pronouncing Gouda correctly all this time.
There is a community effort underway to purchase the Frank Lloyd Wright Bradley House in Kankakee in order to make it available for public touring. As of right now, the initiative is called the Bradley House Campus Preservation Project. $200,000 needs to be raised by the Community Foundation to purchase the home from its current private owners. I will be writing more about this in the future as I am involved in the project.
Kankakee Community College's literary anthology, Prairie Fire, will be unveiled at a reading reception Monday, May 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. A number of student contributors will read their work, and awards will be given to three students honored for The Best of Prairie Fire. This event will take place in the Iroquois Room at the college. I will write a separate post on this in the next couple of weeks.
